When asked about De Ligt’s injury before kick-off at Old Trafford, Amorim told Sky Sports: ‘It’s hard because, when you see that position, especially this 12 months, it’s just Harry [Maguire] and Matta playing those positions.
‘It’s a blow. He’s playing really very well. But I’m really excited with Ayden. He’s working there. I believe he has the fitting characteristics to play there.
‘It’s a giant opportunity for everybody to see Ayden.
‘For Matta, it’s a small thing. I expect to have Matthijs next game [against Wolves next Monday].’
On his decision to drop Leny Yoro following his performance within the win against Crystal Palace last weekend, Amorim added: ‘As a manager, we’d like to take into consideration every part. I spoke to Leny, not about leaving him out but in regards to the message. He’s so dissatisfied but it surely is a tactical issue.
‘It’s a transparent option and a tactical option. Today we’d like to win, regardless of what.’
