A marriage reception in India turned to an enormous brawl after the dessert bar ran out of rasgullas.

When relatives from the bride’s side complained that the rasgullas had run out on the food counter in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, the groom’s family took offence.

Tensions quickly escalated, and shortly, CCTV footage caught guests punching one another and throwing chairs.

Suresh Prasad, the bride’s father, explained that tensions had already escalated when the groom’s side began demanding an extra dowry throughout the wedding rituals.

He added: ‘After this, the groom’s side began beating us, injuring several people from our side. We now have filed a grievance on the Bodh Gaya police station.’

Police confirmed multiple injuries from either side within the scuffle. The groom’s father, Mahendra Prasad, later clarified that the brawl began over a shortage of rasgullas, not the dowry.

Mahendra said: ‘The dispute over the rasgullas escalated to the purpose where the bride’s side called off the marriage.

‘They’re claiming additional dowry demands, which is fake. We still want our son to marry the identical girl, however the bride’s side refuses.’

The groom’s mother, Munni Devi, also accused the bride’s family of taking jewellery she had brought as gifts throughout the fight. She also said that the groom’s side had covered the hotel booking costs.

Officers are investigating the incident.

In traditional Indian weddings, the bride’s family typically covers most expenses, including the primary ceremony, reception, and the bride’s attire.

Nonetheless, modern practices are shifting towards more equal cost-sharing between families, with some couples opting to pay for his or her weddings.
