After an extended 18 months of recovery from injury, AEW’s Eddie Kingston is about for an enormous match at “AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming,” difficult Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship. It’s the primary time Kingston has challenged for the title in five years, and as he explained on “Gabby AF,” it could’ve easily not happened due to his mindset while he recovered.
“I used to be out for 18 months, right?” Kingston said. “In those 18 months, I need to’ve quit AEW no less than six times, okay? Just reason for my very own mental [state], right? For 18 months, I didn’t know who the f**k I used to be without the wrestling ring, right? And I just realized ‘After I get back, I’m not going to provide a f**k anymore, and just be me, and never please anybody. Just please me. And protect my people.’ That is it.”
Kingston made clear, nonetheless, that his baggage and current mindset doesn’t suggest he doesn’t wish to defeat Joe and grow to be AEW’s top star.
“Do I need to be World Champion? Yes,” Kingston said. “Quite simple folks; you grow to be World Champion, you get that belt, that is your trophy. You get extra money, you get more sway with the office. That is probably the most inside baseball I’m going to provide you. You get more sway with the office, you get to choose who you are going to fight, you get more power over who you are going to fight. You are capable of say ‘No’ more.”
Kingston then identified that Joe could’ve handwaved Kingston as an opponent, and the undeniable fact that he didn’t allows Kingston to take care of a small amount of respect for him.
“He didn’t say no to this,” Kingston said. “He could’ve, but he didn’t. So okay. Cause Joe’s a fighter still. Do not get any of this twisted. All the pieces I’m saying about Joe has nothing to do with the undeniable fact that he’s the perfect pro wrestler on this planet today, and…the AEW World Title proves it. And that is it.”
