World No. 1 ODI batter Rohit Sharma will play for Mumbai within the 2025-26 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is about to be played from December 24 to January 18. In accordance with a report in RevSportz on Friday (December 12), Rohit’s participation within the upcoming premier domestic one-day tournament is all but confirmed, and he’ll play few matches for Mumbai before playing within the ODI series against Recent Zealand.
India will face Recent Zealand in a three-match ODI series in January 2026. The three 50-over matches between the 2 finalists of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy are scheduled to happen in Vadodara, Rajkot and Indore on January 11, 14 and 18, respectively.
As per the available information, Rohit, who scored 75 runs for India within the third ODI against South Africa on December 6 in Visakhapatnam, is yet to officially confirm his availability for the matches in Jaipur to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), but the previous India captain ‘stays firmly within the association’s scheme of things’.
“The squad might be picked on a match-to-match basis, and we expect Rohit to play just a few games, although we haven’t received any confirmation from him yet,” an MCA source was quoted as saying by RevSportz.
“But there’s time. The squad is more likely to be picked next week, after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. There are ODIs against Recent Zealand next month as well, so it would depend upon his availability,” the source added.
Virat in Delhi’s squad
Virat Kohli will play for Delhi in Vijay Hazare Trophy after 15 long years. The previous India skipper was included in Delhi’s squad together with Rishabh Pant on Thursday.
The provision of Kohli, confirmed earlier this month, and Pant is anticipated to significantly bolster Delhi’s batting line-up, especially with the BCCI’s rule mandating that contracted India players take part in domestic cricket when not engaged in international commitments.
Delhi’s first two Elite Group D matches might be against Andhra and Gujarat on the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Kohli’s home ground for his IPL team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The remaining five games might be played on the Alur Cricket Ground on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
