The deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were confirmed after the couple was found dead at their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14.

In line with reports, first responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department were dispatched to the house around 3:30 p.m. following a medical aid call.

Upon arrival at the situation, they found the lifeless bodies of a person and a lady aged 78 and 68, respectively. Sources eventually confirmed the corpses to be those of Reiner and Michele.

The actor’s family released a press release acknowledging the tragedy, saying, “It’s with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We’re heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Actor and filmmaker Ben Stiller was among the many first to publicly reflect on Rob Reiner’s impact, calling the loss “an enormous loss.”

He described the legend as “one among my favorite directors,” noting that his movies shaped a complete generation of moviegoers.

Stiller praised Reiner’s transition from television actor to director, saying he emerged “from behind an enormous comedic shadow of the good Carl Reiner” to create an unmatched run of influential movies.

The comedian added that “Spinal Tap is top-of-the-line comedies ever made – and the list goes on,” before reflecting on Reiner’s character.

Stiller described the director as a sort and caring person, who was very funny.

Although the 60-year-old didn’t know Reiner quite well, he revealed he was extremely sad for his family and people who knew him well.

Actors Who Worked With Rob Reiner Share Their Grief

Several actors who collaborated directly with Reiner spoke openly about their devastation.

Elijah Wood, who starred in Reiner’s 1994 film “North,” took to X to precise his grief, writing, “Horrified to listen to of the passing of Rob Reiner and his wonderful wife [Michele]. A lot like to their kids and family.”

Actress Roseanne Barr also echoed the disbelief, stating on X that she was “absolutely shocked and horrified” to listen to in regards to the news of Reiner and Michele’s demise.

She further described the situation as “travesty,” before offering her condolences to the family.

John Cusack, who starred in “Stand By Me,” called the 78-year-old “an important man,” while Eric Idle revealed he had spoken to Reiner just hours before his death.

“Rob Reiner was a beautiful man. I spoke to him last night for over an hour,” Idle wrote, recalling conversations about future plans and memories of meeting the icon in 1975.

“That is so awful. I shall miss him,” he added, calling Reiner clever, talented, and thoughtful.

Kathy Bates, who won an Oscar for starring within the producer’s film “Misery,” described Rob Reiner as “good and sort.”

Besides film legends, political leaders also joined the tributes, highlighting Reiner’s activism alongside his creative work.

Former President Barack Obama said, “Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele.”

He added that the activist’s stories were rooted in “a deep belief within the goodness of individuals.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom praised Reiner’s empathy, saying it “made his stories timeless,” while emphasizing his advocacy for kids, civil rights, and education.

Mira Sorvino, who appeared with the actor within the Netflix series “Hollywood,” called Reiner “a legend & a sort, good man,” recalling how his wit and heat made working with him a joy.

The Norman Lear family, whose work on “All In The Family” helped launch Reiner’s profession, paid tribute to the Emmy Award winner in a press release to Variety.

“The Lear Family is devastated by the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner,” the statement began.
