Star Jharkhand pacer Sushant Mishra, who was on Tuesday picked up by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 90 lakh on the IPL 2026 mini auction, on Thursday finished with figures of 4-0-27-3 in the ultimate of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, helping his team win their maiden title within the premier domestic tournament.

Put in to bat first, Jharkhand posted a whopping 262/3, riding on 100 from skipper Ishan Kishan, a 38-ball 81-run knock from Kumar Kushagra and a 20-ball 40-run knock from Anukul Roy.

Within the chase, Haryana found themselves at 1/2 by the tip of the primary over, because of Vikash Singh’s twin strikes. Arsh Ranga and wicketkeeper Yashvardhan Dalal then added 35 runs for the third wicket before the previous was dismissed by Sushant.

Dalal and Nishant Sindhu then added 67 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter was dismissed by Anukul. Wickets kept tumbling from there on and Haryana were bowled out for 193, with Sushant and Bal Krishna picking three wickets apiece.

Sushant went on to dismiss Parth Vats and Anshul Kamboj. But what makes the previous’s spell special is that he conceded runs at an economy of 6.8, with the following best economy being 10 by Vikash.

Who Is Sushant Mishra?

Before Rajasthan, the 24-year-old from Ranchi had been a part of the Gujarat Titans and the Sunrisers Hyderabad as well. Sushant made his List A debut against Delhi 4 years ago, but went for 36 runs in his 4 overs. He now has 15 wickets in 10 List A matches, at a formidable economy of 5.63.

Sushant made his first-class debut against Chhattisgarh in February 2022 and picked five wickets within the latter’s first innings, which included the wickets of Sanidhya Hurkat (37), skipper Harpreet Singh, Amandeep Khare (34), Sumit Ruikar and Ravi Kiran.

Sushant also picked up one wicket within the second innings, but Jharkhand went on to lose the sport. He now has 28 wickets from 11 matches and an economy of 4.

Sushant made his T20 debut against Pondicherry in October 2023, conceding 43 runs in 4 overs. He now has 29 wickets from 15 matches, although he has been a bit expensive. 

Sushant thus finished SMAT because the joint-highest wicket-taker, alongside Rajasthan’s Ashok Sharma, with 22 wickets apiece.
