Alex Carey entered his name within the history books on Friday (December 19) by becoming the primary wicketkeeper-batter to attain a century in addition to a half-century in the identical Ashes Test. The primary ever Ashes Test between England and Australia was played from December 30, 1882, to January 2, 1883, at Melbourne Cricket Ground, but after 143 years, a wicketkeeper-batter has scored a century and a half-century in the identical Test. If 34-year-old Carey, who also scored a half-century within the second Ashes Test played from December 4 to 7 at The Gabba in Brisbane, manages to convert his 52-run knock to a century, then he’ll turn out to be the primary Australian wicketkeeper-batter within the history of Test cricket to attain two centuries in a Test match.
Up to now only two wicketkeepers – Andy Flower of Zimbabwe and Rishabh Pant of India – have managed to attain centuries in each innings of a Test match.

Andy Flower was the primary designated wicketkeeper-batter to attain twin centuries in a Test match. The legendary Zimbabwe cricketer scored 141 and 199* against South Africa in Harare in 2001. Pant joined him within the elite list through the first Test of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The left-handed batter made 134 runs against England in the primary innings of the primary Test played at Headingley in Leeds and made 118 within the second.
A century within the second innings of the Adelaide Test will help Carey turn out to be the nineteenth Australian to attain twin centuries in Tests. Warren Bardsley was the primary batter within the history of Test cricket to attain twin centuries in a match.
