Rob Reiner gave a loving shout-out to his kids, including son Nick Reiner, during his 2017 Hand and Footprint Ceremony on the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
During his speech on the event, Rob celebrated “a very powerful people” in his life — his family. The director name-dropped wife Michele Singer Reiner, daughter Romy and sons Jake and Nick. (Rob was being honored alongside his father, the late Carl Reiner.)
“Michele and Romy and Jake, my other son Nick is back in Recent York. I really like you guys,” he told the gang. “I wouldn’t be here [but for Carl] having sex with my mother, and also you being supportive of me, and also you wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have sex along with your mother. I believe TMI”
Rob can also be the daddy of Tracy Reiner, whom he adopted during his first marriage to the late Penny Marshall.
The Princess Bride filmmaker’s shout-out to his son resurfaced days after news of Rob and Michele’s deaths broke on Sunday, September 14.
“It’s with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a spokesperson for the family shared in a press release on Sunday. “We’re heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
The couple died at ages 78 and 70, respectively, and their official reason for death has been listed as “multiple sharp force injuries,” in line with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
Nick, 32, was arrested in connection to the murders and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He’s facing life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
Nick was seen for the primary time since his arrest during a court hearing on Wednesday, December 17. In response to a courtroom sketch, he was wearing a suicide prevention vest and appeared disheveled. Nick was accompanied by his attorney Alan Jackson but didn’t enter a plea.
