Ruben Amorim says Manchester United’s players ‘must fight’ against a sense of ‘entitlement’

Ruben Amorim has hit back at social media posts from Harry Amass and Chido Obi, claiming that Manchester United players are being held back by their very own sense of ‘entitlement’.

Last week, Amorim dismissed suggestions that he’s reluctant to make use of to United’s academy players in his first team and said that Amass is ‘struggling within the Championship’, while Obi ‘shouldn’t be all the time a starter in under 21s’.

In response to Amorim’s assessment, Amass, who’s on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, posted an image of himself holding the club’s Player of the Month award before it was quickly deleted.

Obi, meanwhile, has been out as a consequence of injury but posted an image of himself celebrating a goal for United’s Under-21s.

When asked in regards to the response from Amass and Obi, Amorim said on Friday: ‘I believe it’s a bit of bit the sensation of entitlement we’ve in our club.

‘Sometimes, strong words shouldn’t be bad words. Sometimes, difficult moments usually are not bad things for the youngsters. We don’t have to be all the time with accolades in every little thing, in every situation.

‘That’s why you guys speak about plenty of players nowadays, that they speak, they go against the clubs and every little thing happens because they feel entitlement. Then you have got legends of the club who say should you don’t play, leave, because everyone seems to be unsuitable. No, let’s take into consideration… let’s stay, let’s fight, let’s overcome, possibly the manager is unsuitable.

‘So, I even have that feeling on a regular basis that we’d like to fight against this sense. Sometimes, I’m the primary one to say I’m failing this club contained in the pitch. I even have that feeling, we usually are not performing the way in which we needs to be.

Chido Obi also appeared to hit back at Ruben Amorim

‘But outside the pitch, I guarantee I’m not failing this club.

‘So, I believe it’s something in our club. We talk in regards to the players sometimes forget what it means to play for Manchester United, we as a club sometimes forget who we’re and that’s the feeling I even have.

‘I understand every little thing, it’s the environment, it’s the moment of the players, the youngsters, they feel entitled. They be happy to answer the manager with an image. My office is open, no one is coming to discuss with me and that’s the way in which we are able to solve things. So, I believe we’d like to alter first as a club after which every little thing goes to alter.

‘I didn’t say nothing unsuitable, I just spoke about how the luck of playing for Manchester United. Sometimes you play for Manchester United and go see different realities and also you understand that football may be so different, and that you just are really lucky to be in Manchester United. That was my point but, again, let’s move on and in time I believe this stuff will change.’
