Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has revealed that Danny Welbeck stays an injury doubt for Brighton’s Premier League match against Sunderland on Saturday.

Welbeck has been hampered by an ongoing back issue in recent weeks and commenced on the bench for Brighton’s 2-0 defeat away to Liverpool last weekend.

The 35-year-old comes up against his former club this Saturday as Brighton host Sunderland on the Amex Stadium.

Hurzeler has revealed that Welbeck has been capable of train this week, although he has not made a full recovery.

When asked about Welbeck’s injury during his press conference on Friday, Hurzeler said: ‘It’s still restricted.

‘But Danny sometimes does incredible things. Let’s see if he’s an option to start out.

‘But the problem has not healed yet and it’s still restricting him through the training week.’

Asked in regards to the specifics regarding Welbeck’s injury, Hurzeler replied: ‘He has some minor issues together with his back.’

Brighton will certainly be without captain Lewis Dunk, who misses the sport through suspension.

‘He’s an enormous, big miss definitely,’ Hurzeler said.

‘But we’ve got a robust squad, we’ve got other players who’re able to exchange him. In fact Lewis is an enormous miss, but we even have an enormous confidence in our players who will replace him.’
