Nandani Sharma starred for Delhi Capitals within the WPL, claiming a five-for including a hat-trick against Gujarat Giants.

Star Chandigarh medium-pacer Nandani Sharma took the Women’s Premier League by storm on Sunday, January 11, when she picked a five-wicket haul against the Gujarat Giants, which included a hat-trick, as she became just the second Indian within the tournament’s history to bag three successive wickets.

Regardless that her heroics got here in a losing cause during a nail-biter at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Nandani made her mark by claiming the Purple Cap with a superb five-for against the Gujarat Giants.

After claiming her first wicket by dismissing Sophie Devine on 95, Nandani got here back in the ultimate over and tore through the batting line-up, taking 4 wickets, including a hat-trick that accounted for the last three wickets of the innings.

This made Nandani the second Indian bowler to assert a hat-trick within the WPL, joining Deepti Sharma. Before her, only three hat-tricks had been recorded within the tournament, with England’s Issy Wong and Australia’s Grace Harris also achieving the rare feat of three wickets in three balls.

Nandani plays for Chandigarh in domestic cricket, having led her state team and represented North Zone. She was picked up by DC for Rs 20 lakh on the auction and made her WPL debut against the Mumbai Indians within the season opener.

Nandani finished with figures of 3-0-26-2 in that game, dismissing Gunalan Kamalini and Nicola Carey.

Meanwhile, Gujarat skipper Ashleigh Gardner kept her team within the hunt with a fast 49 off 26 deliveries, but Nandani turned the match on its head, delivering good figures of 5/33, including a hat-trick, as Gujarat were bowled out for 209.

Earlier, Devine set the tone, hitting three fours off Chinelle Henry before targeting Nandani with two fours and a six within the fourth over.
