Wythenshawe Vets over-35s have added one other former Premier League star to their ranks, with Antonio Valencia the most recent to hitch the surprisingly high profile squad list.

The 40-year-old former Manchester United captain will probably be putting his boots on within the Cheshire Veterans Football League.

The Ecuadorian joins a lot of recognisable faces within the team that has been battering local sides.

Former Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland, ex-Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey and Premier League champion with Leicester City, Danny Drinkwater, are all involved.

The once Newcastle forward Papiss Cisse, Joleon Lescott, Nedum Onuoha, Jefferson Montero, Maynor Figueroa, Oumar Niasse and George Boyd have all been playing as well.

Valencia has now joined the party, with Wythenshawe Vets posting just a few of his highlights on Instagram, with the caption: ‘Listed below are a few of our Recent Signing 2x Premier League winner @antoniovalencia2525 best bits.

‘Soon to be running out on the Avensure Community Stadium very soon.’

Ireland was the instigator of the previous international stars turning as much as play for the previously low-key non league.

‘I got here down in pre-season simply because I like playing football,’ Ireland told The Guardian. ‘I like the fitness side of things. I invited a number of the others and slowly but surely everyone desires to play.

‘It’s competitive and it’s going from strength to strength. I didn’t want it to be something where 15 of us ex-pros got here in and took over, I would like a superb mix with the old vets lads.

‘It’s a pleasant humbling experience to interact with fans as well. It’s great to provide back and the club have been so nice to me. We’re all local as well.’

The previous Republic of Ireland international told Sky Sports: ‘We’re all retired and it’s nice to get together to proceed to play football, keep fit and in addition from the mental health side of things.

‘Numerous lads can feel a bit stranded and alone after they come out of football. All of us live in the identical area so help one another.’

Unsurprisingly the previous top professionals are an excessive amount of to handle for the players they at the moment are facing.

Wythenshawe Vets took on Reddish North End Veterans within the Manchester FA Veterans County Cup over the weekend, winning 18-0.

That books them a spot within the semi-finals, where they are going to tackle AFC Monton Veterans next month.
