Phoebe Dynevor Shark Movie Set for Netflix After Losing Sony Release

Filmmaker Tommy Wirkola‘s untitled forthcoming feature is hoping to make a splash on Netflix after losing its theatrical release from Sony Pictures.

The project stars Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou, with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick serving as producers. Netflix is planning a launch for later this yr.

Sony had initially slated the thriller, which was formerly generally known as Shiver, for theatrical release on Aug. 1, 2025, before announcing last yr that the movie had shifted to July 3, 2026. Plot details haven’t been shared.

This movie heads to the streamer as a part of its first-look take care of Sony for direct-to-streaming projects. Earlier this week, Sony continued its relationship with Netflix through a world Pay-1 licensing deal for Sony features to stream on Netflix worldwide after their theatrical and residential media windows.

The businesses have previously collaborated on Sony Pictures Animation’s Mitchells vs the Machines, which has a sequel within the works. Among the many recent projects to have been a part of the studio’s streaming take care of Netflix include 3000 Pictures’ People We Meet on Vacation and Sony Pictures Animation’s K-Pop Demon Hunters, with the latter now the streamer’s most-watched film ever.

Wirkola is understood for helming such movies as Dead SnowHansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and What Happened to Monday. He directs Violent Night 2, the sequel to his 2022 Christmas-themed motion movie, which is about to his theaters Dec. 4 from Universal Pictures and sees David Harbour reprise his role as Santa Claus.

Dynevor is understood for her work on Bridgerton and in such movies as Fair Play and Anniversary.
