Guthrie opened up about her vocal surgery journey in a segment of the “Today” show, which aired on Friday, January 23. The clip, shared on YouTube, captured the moment the co-anchor heard her voice for the primary time following per week of post-surgery rest.

After Dr. Peak Woo inspected her vocal cords, he encouraged Guthrie to talk, and he or she delivered her usual broadcast greeting. “Good morning, today is Tuesday, January 13, 2026. I’m using my voice for the primary time, and it sounds good, I could cry,” she said.

Within the segment, Guthrie explained that her vocal issues began years ago, but she never believed it was a major problem. “I noticed my voice got deeper and scratchier, but what I assumed was just normal wear and tear and aging,” she shared.

Guthrie’s lax response to he voice change immediately shifted after the problems became “much worse” prior to now yr. She claimed it got so bad that she sometimes found it difficult “to get through a sentence,” and he or she sought out Dr. Woo’s expertise as a number one voice specialist.

Due to the doctor, Guthrie discovered that she needed a microscopic laryngeal surgery to remove a hemorrhagic polyp on one side of her vocal cords. The operation also included the removal of a vocal nodule or a “callus from overuse” on the opposite side of her vocal cords.

Based on Guthrie, undergoing the surgery wasn’t probably the most difficult a part of the journey. She had to remain quiet to heal after the operation, a process that was “sort of terrifying” yet “beautiful” for the published journalist.

Guthrie explained that she didn’t talk for eight days and was “almost silent for about per week after that.” During these moments, she needed to learn to remain quiet and get used to being alone in solitude. Even though it was a bit frightening, Guthrie found a silver lining.

“I discovered it to be a wonderful, beautiful moment and spiritual moment, and I’m so grateful,” Guthrie said about her days of silence. She wasn’t alone in feeling comfortable about regaining her voice as fans flooded the comment section with their congratulations and well-wishes.

Before Guthrie debuted her latest voice on the morning news show, a January 21 episode of “Joy Rides” captured her recounting the pain of her divorce with host Hoda Kotb. Within the episode shared on YouTube, Guthrie confessed that she doubted her price after separating from Mark Orchard.

The TV personality explained that she was in her 30s and just starting a brand new job at NBC when her first marriage resulted in 2009. “And it made me have to essentially dig deep, and I felt like a failure,” Guthrie said about going through a divorce while attempting to advance in her profession.

She added that she felt old on the time, but looking back, she realized she had been too young to feel disheartened by a divorce. Guthrie eventually regained her confidence through her relationship with God and located love again along with her second husband, Michael Feldman.
