It might seem to be an extended time ago, but society remains to be only just a few years faraway from the COVID-19 pandemic that gripped not only america, but the entire world. Through all of it, pro wrestling continued on, with AEW specifically selecting to run shows out of Every day’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida for over a yr before the pandemic died down. And despite the circumstances, many AEW personnel and fans look back on the time as a highlight for a way the promotion was in a position to come together.
That’s definitely the view of AEW announcer Tony Schiavone. On a recent episode of “What Happened When,” Schiavone reflected on that time frame and admitted that he and plenty of others in AEW missed the bond many in the corporate had back then, while acknowledging how odd that was given the circumstances AEW was thrust into.
“I believe that we forged a variety of great relationships during COVID, because we were in Jacksonville and we’d stay in Jacksonville three or 4 days at a time after which take per week off and are available back three or 4 days at a time,” Schiavone said. “We worked the identical venue. Tony had dinner for us all, had it catered within the hotel, so all of us…there was the closeness that once we discuss amongst us, we miss. Everybody that was in AEW back then which can be still with us misses those times. It was terrible, COVID was terrible, I do know. But for us in AEW, it was an exquisite, wonderful time.”
