UFC 324 DELAYED as cancelled fights see first Paramount+ bout start over an hour after planned time

The primary fight of UFC 324 didn’t kick off until 72 minutes after it was initially planned consequently of two last minute cancellations.

There had been 13 bouts planned for the show, which is the primary under the promotion’s latest $7.7billion US broadcast take care of Paramount+. Nonetheless, weigh-in drama and an undisclosed reason cost them two prelim fights.

While UFC 324’s start ended up coming much later than expected, the predominant event between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje won’t be affected. The predominant card still starts at 9pm Eastern as was all the time planned.

UFC 324 delayed by 72 minutes after multiple fights called off

At the beginning of fight week, even with a card weakened by the lack of the co-main event between Kayla Harrison and Amanda Nunes, plans were to begin proceedings at 5pm. That is the primary UFC show of their latest broadcast deal, and that comes with an earlier start than the ESPN days.

Nonetheless, at yesterday’s weigh-ins bantamweight contender Cameron Smotherman collapsed after making the limit, and his bout with Ricky Turcios was quickly cancelled. Then this afternoon amid a string of social media rumors, Alexander Hernandez’s meeting with Michael Johnson was also pulled.

Generally, fights are given a half-hour window to permit for ring walks, a 17-minute fight time should the bout go the space (including minute breaks between rounds), and a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. Consequently, the show was pushed back to five.30pm initially.

And when Hernandez’s bout was called off, the promotion opted to remain on the newly-announced time. That they had Kate Scott warm up viewers with a panel including legendary former champions Michael Bisping, Dominick Cruz and Chris Weidman, together with an appearance from rock icon Travis Barker.

The bell didn’t ring for the opening bout until 72 minutes after the planned 5pm Eastern start time, but when it did, Ty Miller and Adam Fugitt delivered in spades. The unbeaten welterweight was caught early, before rallying back and dropping his veteran opponent multiple times.

And with the bell ringing out for the tip of the round, his relentless attack was an excessive amount of for the referee to permit because the bout was called. The result earned Miller a $25,000 bonus under the brand new reward scheme announced by Dana White earlier today.
