The International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah paid tribute to former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Inderjit Singh Bindra, commonly often called I.S. Bindra, who passed away at his residence on Sunday on the age of 84.
ICC Chief Jay Shah honoured Bindra, expressing hope that “his legacy would encourage future generations.”
“Deepest condolences on the passing of Mr IS Bindra, former BCCI president and a stalwart of Indian cricket administration. May his legacy encourage future generations. Om Shanti,” Shah wrote.

Bindra served as BCCI president from 1993 to 1996 and was a key figure in Indian cricket administration. He led the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for a few years, along with his association spanning from 1978 to 2014.
During his tenure, Bindra made significant contributions to cricket management and infrastructure within the region and beyond. In recognition of his contributions, the PCA Stadium in Mohali was renamed the I.S. Bindra Stadium in 2015.
Along with his role as an administrator, Bindra was known for his outspoken views on governance in Indian cricket. He particularly criticised the management of the IPL 2013 corruption scandal by N. Srinivasan and the BCCI, questioning the dearth of transparency and accountability.
As a senior bureaucrat, Bindra helped establish India’s place in world cricket in the course of the Nineties, together with Jagmohan Dalmiya, by recognising the industrial opportunities for television rights. This led to the entry of personal broadcasters, transforming the financial structure of the sport and increasing India’s global influence.
Internationally, Bindra played a serious role in securing the rights for the ICC to carry major events in India. Later, he became one among the first advisers to the President of the ICC, underlining his significance inside cricket administration.
