Legendary referee shares his verdict on Jean Silva’s ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ at UFC 324

Veteran referee John McCarthy has weighed in on the strangest moment from UFC 324.

Jean Silva and Arnold Allen placed on among the finest fights on the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The featherweight contender took part in a back-and-forth striking battle that went the 15-minute distance.

In the long run, Jean Silva walked away with a unanimous decision victory (30–27, 29–28, 29–28) at UFC 324.

Did Jean Silva commit a foul at UFC 324?

In a bizarre scene, Jean Silva jumped on and off his opponent’s back in the ultimate moments of their fight.

Arnold Allen didn’t appear too bothered about it, and neither did the referee contained in the Octagon.

Nonetheless, one fan online asked John McCarthy if Silva should’ve been deducted some extent for his actions.

“Could be a dumb query, but should there have been some extent taken or a warning given when Jean Silva stood on Arnold Allen and jumped off of him last night at UFC 324? He was standing on his spine and neck, and pushed off, which feels illegal. (No rooting interest),” Seattle Drew tweeted on the legendary referee.

“Sorry, Drew, but within the situation that he jumped off of Allen, I see nothing that may very well be regarded as a foul,” McCarthy replied.

“Aside from unsportsmanlike conduct, and I don’t imagine that it got here near that under the circumstances that were happening. Is it odd… yes, but nothing I consider illegal.”

Jean Silva catapulted himself into featherweight title contention by beating Arnold Allen at UFC 324.

Alexander Volkanovski will defend his 145lb belt in a rematch with Diego Lopes at UFC 325 on January 31.

Fans complained in regards to the matchup due to one-sided nature of their first fight at UFC 314 last April.

Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy were the 2 people named as more deserving of a title shot.

It appears Silva might want to beat considered one of them before he gets his crack on the featherweight crown.
