In line with Vanity Fair, on Monday, January 26, a brand new issue of The Wall Street Journal’s print edition was published. Moreover, the publication featured an apology letter from Ye. “To Those I Hurt,” the letter is titled.
“Twenty-five years ago, I used to be in a automotive accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to the best frontal lobe of my brain. On the time, the main focus was on the visible damage—the fracture, the swelling, and the immediate physical trauma. The deeper injury, the one inside my skull, went unnoticed,” the rapper writes, starting his letter.
Because the note goes on, Ye revealed that his “frontal lobe injury” wasn’t diagnosed until 2023. Moreover, he stated that the “medical oversight” caused “serious damage” to his mental health. Moreover, he stated that it contributed to his bipolar I diagnosis.
Ye then went on to elucidate that he thought he was seeing the world clearly, but he was in a manic state and in “denial.” This, all while feeling “powerful, certain, and unstoppable.”
“In that fractured state, I gravitated toward essentially the most destructive symbol I could find, the swastika,” he continued.
Ultimately, he stated that he’s “mortified” by his actions. And he’s “not a Nazi” or an “antisemite.”
