Frank Sanchez and Richard Torrez Jr have reached terms for an IBF heavyweight title eliminator, clearing the way in which for a fight that may determine the sanctioning body’s next mandatory challenger.
Dan Rafael reported that the bout is prone to happen on the undercard of Sebastian Fundora vs Keith Thurman on March 28, though the IBF has not yet issued formal confirmation.
Sanchez enters the eliminator with a record of 25 1 and 18 knockouts. The Cuban heavyweight established himself as a contender with a choice win over Efe Ajagba in 2021 and later suffered his first skilled loss to Agit Kabayel. He returned earlier this yr with a stoppage win over Ramon Olivas Echeverria.
Torrez stays unbeaten at 14 0 with 12 knockouts. The Olympic silver medalist has been fast tracked since turning skilled and scored his most notable victory last April with a choice over Guido Vianello. He last appeared in November, stopping Tomas Salek within the opening round.
