Scott McTominay says he has ‘a lot love’ for Michael Carrick after Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal.

After guiding United to a 2-0 victory at home to Manchester City in his first game in charge, Carrick followed that up with one other impressive result against Mikel Arteta’s side on the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

McTominay has extensive experience of playing alongside and being coached by Carrick before United sold him to Napoli in a £25.7 million deal in August 2024.

Asked if he surprised by Carrick’s start as United manager, McTominay replied: ‘No I’m not, to be honest. He’s such an excellent guy, Michael.

‘I’ve got a lot love and respect for him, him and Kieran McKenna and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer helped me a lot in that period where they were at Manchester United and I wish them nothing but the very best.

‘The 2 results they’ve had have been amazing, especially for me to look at. I’m very, very pleased with all of the players and long may it proceed.

‘The games, the massive ones against Arsenal and Man City are vital but sometimes it’s the games that should not really easy away from home against the promoted teams or teams of so-called lesser stature that are probably just as vital.

‘For me, I’m looking forward to watching them and continuing to do well and I wish all of them one of the best.’

McTominay is now preparing for Napoli’s final game of the Champions League league phase as they host Chelsea on Wednesday evening.

When asked in regards to the start that Liam Rosenior has made at Chelsea, ,’ McTominay said: ‘Yeah, I’m impressed, he’s obviously a extremely good young coach who has got good ideas.

‘For me, I wouldn’t concentrate an excessive amount of on that, it’s more about what we do and what we are able to produce on the pitch tomorrow with the players we have now on the pitch.

‘It’s going to be an excellent game and I’m looking forward to it.’
