Joshua Shares Emotional Message After Fatal Crash
As reported, a devastating automobile crash in Nigeria claimed the lives of two of Anthony Joshua’s closest friends. The previous two-time heavyweight champion shared an emotional video to social media on Thursday. In the clip, he reflects on the tragic incident that occurred on December 29 near Lagos, Nigeria, which killed Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele.
Within the video, Joshua revealed that the group had just been together in Miami and were planning out the remainder of 2025 before every little thing modified. “We went back home, went to see our families and every little thing just got flipped up on its head,” he said. Holding back tears, Joshua spoke in regards to the pain of losing not only friends, but brothers who played major roles in his life.
“Not even did their parents, uncles, cousins, friends and myself lose two great men — we lost those that we dearly care about.”
Joshua Addresses Scrutiny While Processing Deep Loss
Joshua, 36, acknowledged the load of public scrutiny while selecting to grieve privately. “I’m not going to sit down here and show all of my emotions,” he explained. Joshua added that despite outside judgment, he knows what he feels and understands his purpose moving forward. Within the video’s caption, Joshua admitted the message “took a couple of attempts” to record.
The boxing star also shared a deeply spiritual reflection on loss. Joshua said he’s found comfort in believing his friends are still with him in one other way. “At some point my time will come, and I’m not scared… It’s actually comforting I’ve got two brothers on the opposite side,” Joshua said. He described them as his “left and right,” adding, “I used to be walking with giants that kept me protected.”
The Champ Honors Friends’ Legacy While Taking Time
Joshua went on to thank supporters all over the world for the overwhelming love shown to his late friends. He also vowed to assist fulfill their dreams and support their families. “Regardless that they will not be here within the physical… spiritually they’re going to help me through,” he said. Also, Joshua emphasized that it can take strength beyond the physical to maintain going.
Following the crash, Joshua has been taking time away from the highlight to get better each physically and emotionally. His longtime promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently shared that the boxer will likely be moving at his own pace as he processes the tragedy, saying Joshua “will take his time to get back on course.” For now, Joshua appears focused on honoring his friends’ legacy, leaning on faith, family, and his close-knit circle as he navigates this painful chapter.
