Mikel Arteta says he was not surprised to see Manchester City spending heavily within the January transfer window once more, insisting their business won’t force Arsenal’s hand.
City spent near £180million alone in January last 12 months and have made the 2 biggest signings of the window this month in bringing in Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi.
They saw off interest from Manchester United to sign Semenyo from Bournemouth with a £65million release energetic this month.
With major defensive problems forcing their hand somewhat, City then swooped to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace for an initial £20m with the England star entering the ultimate six months of his contract in south east London.
Arsenal were amongst Guehi’s admirers while they were also among the many clubs credited with interest in Semenyo last summer.
The pair cost City £85m with Arteta trusting the squad he assembled last summer, with their only major business so far Ethan Nwaneri’s loan switch to Marseille.
With the gap between them just 4 points on the time of writing, City will hope their January business shall be the difference come May.

‘That’s their business,’ Arteta said of City’s two latest additions.
‘I do know what they’re going to do and what they’ve been doing during the last 10-15 years. So obviously not surprised. They need to win and they’re going to do every little thing to win.’
While there’s already talk of a move for Julian Alvarez constructing towards the summer transfer window, a quiet window for Arsenal is most unlikely to vary in the ultimate days.

Despite each City and Aston Villa, who’ve signed Tammy Abraham and Douglas Luis on loan, making key additions, it is going to not prompt a late flurry of business in north London.
Asked if activity elsewhere has Arsenal things in another way at the previous few days of the January window, Arteta said: ‘Not due to them, because if we’ve any issues, we have to be on top of that. But that’s not a surprise.
‘They did it as well last 12 months, very aggressively when it was needed. We’ve our ambitions, but we even have our own restrictions.
‘We’d like to know what we’ve to do, what we will do and what we consider is the proper thing to do.’
