UPDATE — 2/4/26, 8:19 a.m. ET: HBO is making moves ahead of The Last of Us season 3.
Deadline reported on Tuesday, February 3, that Spider-Man: No Way Home actor Jorge Lendeborg Jr. has been forged as Manny for The Last of Us season 3 after Danny Ramirez’s surprise exit was announced late last 12 months.
Original story:
Season 3 of The Last of Us goes to look somewhat different with Danny Ramirez‘s role as Manny being recast.
Multiple outlets reported on Monday, December 29, that Ramirez, 33, can be exiting the show on account of scheduling conflicts. He originally joined the forged in season 2 as Manny, who was described as “a loyal soldier whose sunny outlook belies the pain of old wounds and a fear that he’ll fail his friends once they need him most.”
Manny is a former member of the Fireflies rebel militia group and was working with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) to get revenge on Joel (Pedro Pascal) for the massacre he carried out on the Firefly hospital to avoid wasting Ellie (Bella Ramsey).
Based on the video game of the identical name by Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us explores a postapocalyptic world overrun by a fungal infection that turns people into zombie-like monsters. At the middle of the story is smuggler Joel, who has to escort immune teenager Ellie across America to the revolutionaries hoping to search out a cure.
Season 2 delivered a shocking twist — that fans of the video game saw coming — when Pascal’s character died within the second episode.
“I’m in energetic denial,” Pascal, 50, told Entertainment Weekly in April. “I realize this an increasing number of as I become older, I find myself slipping into denial that anything is over.”
He added, “I do know that I’m eternally bonded to so many members of the experience and just need to see them under different circumstances but never will under the circumstances of playing Joel on The Last of Us.”
The hit HBO series found a technique to keep Pascal involved in flashback form throughout the remainder of the season.
“Simply to see Pedro and Bella yet one more time; to see their happiest they’ve ever been, perhaps the saddest they’ve been with one another, and the angriest they’ve ever been,” Druckmann told The Hollywood Reporter in May. “It was such a joy to explore all those nuances along the way in which. I’m extremely happy with the way it turned out, and I used to be really nervous.”
After The Last of Us was renewed for a 3rd season, it was confirmed that Ramsey, 22, wouldn’t be leading the franchise anymore.
Dever’s Abby will now be the main target of the show, with the actress, 29, telling Deadline in April, “The scripts, the dialogue and the story is so amazing that I’m in no way going into season 3 with any kind of fear or hesitation. It’s pure excitement to be a part of such a cool show.”
Dever previously weighed in on the backlash that got here with playing the infamous character liable for Joel’s death.
“It’s hard to not stop myself from taking a look at [the criticism] every on occasion, especially going into this, needless to say,” Dever told Screen Rant in March. “And I would like to do that character justice and make the fans proud by bringing her to life in this type of way.”
