Jamie Carragher says he modified his stance on Manchester City’s Premier League title aspirations after they signed superstar goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG.

‘At first of the season, I didn’t think there was any way Man City could win the league due to the goalkeeping situation,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports after Man City’s win over Liverpool.

‘Nobody wins a Premier League without a fully great goalkeeper and there’s little question about Donnarumma, a Champions League winner who was won the Euros with Italy.
‘They’ve got a goalkeeper who can win the league. Before they signed him, there was no way they might win a league without signing someone of that calibre.’
Man City’s matchwinner Haaland also heaped praise on Donnarumma, hailing him because the ‘best goalkeeper on the planet’.
‘You saw it within the second half, Liverpool managed to play good football,’ Haaland said.
‘Have a look at Gigi [Donnarumma] the save he makes, it’s incredible. That shows why he’s the very best on the planet.
‘Let’s be honest, this place is so tough to come back to and we knew this. We began well and we managed to remain in it and never surrender.
‘In the long run, that is what we’d like to maintain doing. We’d like to begin winning games. That’s what matters. Easy as that.’
Arsenal continued their title charge with an emphatic 3-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday, £64m summer signing Viktor Gyokeres scoring twice against the Black Cats.
Mikel Arteta’s side, bidding to clinch Arsenal’s first Premier League title in 22 years, return to motion on Thursday night against London rivals Brentford.
The gap at the highest of the table could possibly be just three points by the point Arsenal travel to west London as Manchester City face Fulham the night before.
