Marc Cucurella is ready to undergo scans on a possible hamstring injury after he was substituted at half-time in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Leeds United.

Cucurella was named in Liam Rosenior’s starting lineup on Tuesday evening, but didn’t return after the half-time interval attributable to an injury.

Jorrel Hato got here on as his alternative, with Chelsea doubling their advantage shortly afterwards when Cole Palmer scored from the spot after Joao Pedro had given the hosts the lead before the break.

Nevertheless, six minutes of madness saw Chelsea throw away their lead as goals from Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor earned Daniel Farke’s side an unlikely away point at Stamford Bridge.

The result means Chelsea missed out on the chance to leapfrog Manchester United and move back into the highest 4.

And there was more bad news shortly after full-time when Rosenior confirmed that Cucurella could possibly be set for a spell on the sidelines.

‘Unfortunately at half-time he felt his hamstring,’ the Chelsea boss explained. ‘It wasn’t a tactical change, it was one which was enforced.

‘Cucu’s been top and hopefully he’ll be okay. We’ll scan him and be certain we discover out if he’s available for the following game.’

Rosenior was also left to reflect upon his side’s contrasting fortunes in each boxes, which saw his side concede twice despite giving up so little to their opposition, while also squandering a slew of opportunities themselves to win the sport late on.

‘It was two key moments in the sport that we didn’t care for, once we didn’t stay calm,’ he added.

‘Moi Caicedo’s a powerful player, he’s been top for me, but he makes a poor decision. How the play gets there as well, we made just a few poor decisions when it comes to how we press in that moment and we give away a penalty.

‘The penalty goes in, they hit just a few long balls, their energy is up, they pick up just a few second balls. The player handballs it, it affects my players in that moment, they think it’s a handball and switch off and don’t clear the ball, they rating.

‘Then for 25 minutes after that it was wave after wave of attack, but we couldn’t find the goal. We’ve got to only be certain we care for those moments and be skilled. I don’t think it’s about reacting to set-backs. You’re at all times going to have a spell in the sport once you’re not on top.

‘The ridiculous thing for us is that they’ve managed to attain two goals in a five-minute period, when for the opposite 90 minutes of the sport we were by far the higher team. We just made poor decisions in key moments.’

Chelsea return to motion on Friday as they travel to face Championship side Hull City within the FA Cup fourth round.
