A search has been launched for a British tourist who hasn’t been seen in southern Spain for days.

Iain Stanley, 79, was last seen near the Perla Marina Hotel in Nerja on the eastern end of the Costa del Sol on Wednesday, February 11.

Now his family members and the Spanish authorities are combing the world after he was last seen leaving holiday home on the resort.

The last recorded sighting of the pensioner was at about 2pm on Wednesday.

His wife reported him missing on Thursday and the Civil Guard has now launched an investigation to try to determine what happened.

A taxi driver was questioned after saying he believed he gave a lift to a person matching Iain’s description to the nearby town of Torrox. Nonetheless, the police later determined it was a false lead.

Iain, who is alleged to be in good health, was wearing black jeans, a shirt and a blue jacket when he was last seen. He was without his cell phone or his passport.

News of his disappearance is now circulating in several local expat Facebook groups, with relatives also appealing for information on his whereabouts.

It was not immediately clear this afternoon where within the UK the pensioner is from.

One well-wisher who helped by publishing the appeal on social media said he was in Nerja for a two-month holiday.

Last Saturday, a British holidaymaker was airlifted to hospital after dramatically being present in a ravine in Tenerife nearly 30 hours after she went missing during a three-hour hike.

Susan Hornsby, 76, from Devon, had set off on a walk on her own, but alarm was raised when she didn’t return from the three-hour hike.
