Chantelle Cameron confirms Katie Taylor chapter is closed without trilogy despite accepting pay cut

Chantelle Cameron has admitted that her two-division jump to super-welterweight means her possibilities of ever fighting Katie Taylor again are done.

Back in 2023, Cameron defeated Taylor in what’s the only blotch on an otherwise perfect record for the Irishwoman. The pair quickly inked a deal for a rematch which the Brit lost, but over the following two years, the pair were unable to make a 3rd fight occur.

Cameron is now going to face Michaela Kotaskova in an historic showdown for the WBO super-welterweight title at 154lb that may see the pair compete over 10 rounds of three minutes. The bout takes place on Most Helpful Promotions’ massive Sky Sports card at Olympia in London on April 5.

Chantelle Cameron officially ends Katie Taylor feud with move to recent division

Each times that Chantelle Cameron and Katie Taylor fought in 2023, the pair weighed in at 139.5lb to compete for the undisputed super-lightweight title. Now, the Northampton native is skipping welterweight and going right as much as 154lb to fight for WBO gold.

Cameron has designs on Mikaela Mayer eventually, but she first must get through a unique Michaela within the Czech champion Kotaskova.

And with Taylor approaching the top of her profession and seemingly in talks for a gimmick fight with Ronda Rousey or a less difficult name, plainly each her and Cameron are willing to let their feud go.

“That door is closed,” Cameron told Bloody Elbow in an exclusive chat ahead of Most Helpful Promotions’ big UK debut. “That fight might have been done two years ago, I accepted less money for that third fight because I just wanted that trilogy.

“Then obviously there’s been a great deal of excuses and remarks made saying that I want to sell out a stadium or something like that. But let’s not forget that Katie called me out and I accepted [for their first fight], then I had the rematch and naturally I lost.

“But they weren’t apprehensive about me selling out stadiums after they were calling me out on Instagram. It’s just excuse after excuse and I even have no excuses. I lost the fight. I won a fight and I lost a fight and I need the trilogy because I do know that I’d win.

“There’s no excuses from me and that fight might be made so easily but, you recognize what? Katie’s got a superb team round her which are protecting her they usually should protect her because she knows that if we had the third fight she wouldn’t beat me and it’s going to smash her legacy.

“She’s best off having a straightforward fight now, going out on a high. The opposite option is to have a trilogy with me that she knows she’ll lose, it’s not an amazing approach to exit is it? I wouldn’t wish to exit like that so I see why her team is protecting her.

“If I were retiring, I’d relatively a swan song where I look good doing it and wave goodbye to the game.”
