Manchester United have been advised to not sign Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister ‘in one million years’.

The Red Devils were linked with a shock move for Mac Allister last week as they prepare for this summer’s transfer window.

United are expected to sign no less than one midfielder this summer after targeting a player in that position on the pitch last summer.

The Old Trafford squad are already preparing for the departure of Casemiro, who announced last month that he can be leaving the club at the top of the season.

Manchester United are admirers of Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.

It was reported last week that the Red Devils were also excited about Mac Allister, who has been linked with a move away from Anfield ahead of the summer transfer window.

Mac Allister has remodeled 100 appearances for Liverpool since his £55m move from Brighton in 2023, helping the Reds win the Premier League and EFL Cup.

The 27-year-old, a World Cup winner with Argentina, has been less effective this season and continues to be trying to find his first Premier League goal.

Ex-Manchester United defender Paul Parker was surprised by speculation linking Mac Allister with a move to Old Trafford and says it ‘would never work’.

Asked about United’s reported interest within the Liverpool star, Parker told Pariurix: ‘My first thought is just no, no, no. Not in one million years.

Alexis Mac Allister’s dad on Man Utd links

Asked about these rumours, Mac Allister’s dad, Carlos, said: ‘Alexis is just desirous about Liverpool for the time being.

‘We’re waiting for a suggestion to renew his contract. We’ll see what the club’s plan is.’

Pressed on whether his son might be coaxed away should an extension not be agreed, he replied: ‘We’ll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That’s all.’

Carlos Mac Allister talking to winwin

‘I haven’t seen enough the explanation why they might get Mac Allister. The club needs a midfielder, perhaps even two, but would he be one among those two? I feel the reply can be no.

‘It might be a giant no for me, and I’m 100 per cent sure that he doesn’t even want it to occur either due to where he’s playing.

‘He has never said he desires to play for Manchester United. Nobody would ever be that silly to say that. It might never work out, not in one million years.’

Mac Allister would have hoped for more Premier League joy this season but Liverpool’s title defence is already over, with Arne Slot’s side just sixth within the table.

The Reds will hope to maintain the pressure on top-four rivals Manchester United and Chelsea on Sunday after they face relegation-battlers Nottingham Forest.

Mac Allister helped Liverpool beat Brighton 3-0 within the FA Cup last trip because the defending Premier League champions moved into the fifth round where they may face Wolves.

FA Cup holders Crystal Palace are already out but Liverpool will still should beat the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City to win a ninth FA Cup.
