India all-rounder Washington Sundar is on the centre of attention following defending T20 World Cup champions’ big defeat to South Africa. Sundar was preferred over Axar Patel for the competition, a choice that backfired with the previous having an unremarkable outing.
Sundar bowled two wicketless overs for 17 runs while, with the bat, he mustered a run-a-ball 11 as India slumped to a 76-run defeat that has dented their semi-finals hopes.
Sundar also lost his cool throughout the contest as he repeatedly complained to the on-field umpire about South African batter David Miller backing up too near the stumps. The incident happened towards the top of the 14th over with Tristan Stubbs on strike and Miller on the non-striker’s end.
Sundar bailed out of his delivery stride to point where Miller was standing.
Once the over finished, Miller might be seen charging towards the Indian, giving him a mouthful because the two engaged in a heated discussion. Ishan Kishan, Stubbs, and the on-field umpire intervened and separated the duo.

It was a memorable night for Miller whose half-century was key to South Africa recovering from early blows to post a match-winning total of 187/7 on the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday night.
After South Africa captain Aiden Markram opted to bat first, Jasprit Bumrah landed two blows because the 2024 runners-up were reduced to twenty/3 by the top of the fourth over.
It gave solution to a match-defining partnership between Miller (63 off 35) and Dewald Brevis (45 off 29) because the pair lifted South Africa to 117/3 before being separated.
