‘Bryan Mbeumo got here in as almost a right-winger or a right-sided forward within the Ruben Amorim system and I used to be surprised to see him undergo the center,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports.

‘But for me he’s been top-of-the-line signings within the Premier League this season. He suits Manchester United so well.

‘I’ve heard Gary Neville so often describe what a United player should look like and it appears like it’s him [Mbeumo].

‘He can get you up the pitch with power and pace and has that finish as well. He’s been absolutely implausible and provides United a lot whether he’s up top or out wide.’

Manchester United legend Neville has also praised ‘really solid signing’ Mbeumo and suggested each Arsenal and Chelsea must have tried to secure his signature.

Assessing Manchester United’s deal for Mbeumo on the Stick with Football podcast, Neville said: ‘When you take a look at it now, Mbeumo would probably have been higher for Chelsea and Arsenal than the players they got.

Manchester United beat Everton 1-0 on Monday night and return to Premier League motion on the weekend against Crystal Palace.

‘We needed to do numerous work, credit to Everton they made it difficult, made us defend our box loads,’ Carrick said after the narrow win over Everton. ‘The spirit with which we defended the box was top class.

‘A clean sheets is implausible. We will play higher than that, but at the identical time it is agreeable to return away from home and win 1-0.’
