Singer and former “Real Housewives of Atlanta ” star Kandi Burruss announced in November 2025 that she and Todd Tucker were divorcing after 11 years of marriage. For the reason that announcement, there have been multiple court filings between the 2, but they’ve also remained cordial as they coparent their two young children. Recently, Burruss opened up about when she knew her marriage was over and revealed how her mother, Mama Joyce, reacted.

Kandi Burruss Says She Had Been Considering Divorce For Months
Burruss appeared on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” on February 22. While on, host Andy Cohen asked the previous “RHOA” star how long she had been considering separating from Tucker. She responded, “It happened in July. In July, I used to be like, ‘yeah, nah, I can not do that anymore.”
Cohen then asked the Xscape singer whether there was a particular instance that led to their separation after over a decade of marriage. She said, flippantly, “Yeah, it was a particular situation that happened. I’m not talking about it on ‘Watch What Happens Live.'” From there, he also asked for Joyce’s response to the sad news. Notably, Burruss’ mother butted heads with Tucker within the several years they appeared on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” together.

In line with Burruss, “She had been pretty calm. She’s been trying to not say an excessive amount of. Sometimes the web, you realize, conversation can get in her head.”

The Former ‘RHOA’ Star Also Opened Up About Dating

While on “Watch What Happens Live,” Cohen also asked Burruss about her dating life after separating from Tucker. The “& Juliet” star joked within the clip, “People be on my line now. People be calling. Individuals are calling, but it surely’s nothing serious.” After that, he asked how her aunts, who were featured on “RHOA,” feel in regards to the separation.
Burruss explained, “They’ve just been very supportive. Well, you realize Aunt Bertha’s going to dementia, but Aunt Nora’s been very supportive. Overall, you realize, Todd and I are still coparents, so it’s like he still sees the family once we do the children’ parties and stuff like that. Everybody’s still going to be friendly and loving.”

Fans Weigh In On Kandi Burruss’ Comments

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” fans had much to say about Burruss discussing her divorce from Tucker and never telling Cohen what led to it. One person joked on TikTok, “Cut a check so we are able to get the tea!” One other person wrote, “Kandi said I don’t spill unless I receives a commission.”
A special Bravo fan said, “This might be the right time to bring her back on RHOA.” Another person suggested, “Can we get a Kandi gets a divorce special PLEASE. I often don’t care about celebs’ business, but I’m SAT for this.” Finally, another person speculated that Burruss lied in regards to the timeframe, saying, “They’d been considering that wayyyyy longer than July, she’s lying.”

The Singer Recently Revealed How She Spent Valentine’s Day
TMZ recently caught Burruss and her mother leaving an NYC establishment. The interviewer first spotted Joyce and asked her in regards to the divorce between her daughter and Tucker. Before being escorted away from the cameras, she said within the clip, “Well, I just feel like so long as Kandi’s glad, I’m glad.”
After that, the interviewer asked Burruss how she spent her first Valentine’s Day post-separation. She said, “Oh, I used to be with my, well, to start with, I needed to work. I had two shows that day. I took my mom [and my cousins] all of us went out to dinner. Family time.” When asked how she’s feeling, she said, “I feel good.”
Regarding her mother and the way she’s handling the divorce, Burruss said, “She’s been very nice currently.”
The Former Bravo Personality Recently Reunited With Several ‘Housewives’ Stars
Burruss announced in February 2024 that she wouldn’t be returning to “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” for the show’s sixteenth season. Since leaving, she’s remained on good terms, and even reunited with Cohen and a number of other “Real Housewives” stars in February once they got here to see her in Broadway’s “& Juliet.”
Burruss shared photos from the reunion on Instagram. She said within the caption, “Last night was Bravo night at @andjulietbway!!! I used to be smiling from ear to ear seeing a few of my Bravo TV family show up for me!!! Thanks, @bravoandy, @countessluann, @therealmargaretjosephs, @dolorescatania, and @msstaceyrusch for coming through & showing like to my @andjulietbway family! That meant quite a bit to me to see you guys!”

Her limited engagement with “& Juliet” continues until March 8. She began her run in December 2025.
