Tracy Morgan’s Sitcom Throws Shade at Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck Marriage

Tracy Morgan‘s mockumentary The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins found a solution to poke fun at Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck‘s marriage.

Throughout the Monday, February 23, episode of the NBC sitcom, Reggie’s (Tracy Morgan) ex-wife, Monica (Erika Alexander), shared her thoughts on the documentary about her ex, telling documentarian Arthur (Daniel Radcliffe), “We trust you! This might work for all of us.”

Monica did, nonetheless, have one concern in regards to the project.

“I just don’t want us to come back off like Jennifer Lopez in her documentary,” she told Arthur, who replied, “Right, no Ben Affleck. Good note!”

Monica was referencing Lopez’s 2024 music visual film This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, a highly stylized tackle Lopez’s life. It accompanied her most up-to-date album and dove deep into her renewed relationship with Affleck, 53, in between self-help parodies and sci-fi interludes.

Lopez, 56, and Affleck originally reconnected in 2021 after breaking off their 2004 engagement. The pair went on to tie the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022 and had a second ceremony the next month. Before their 2024 split, Lopez praised Affleck’s help with This Is Me … Now: A Love Story, which served as a sequel to her 2002 album This Is Me … Then that was dedicated to Affleck

“I used to be like, ‘I don’t write, I don’t do that,’” she recalled at a February 2024 press conference. “He was like, ‘You do, you write, you direct, you produce, you choreograph, you do all of the things. Start moving into that, start owning a bit little bit of who you might be.’”

The singer was excited to share a glimpse of her and Affleck’s love story, telling Variety on the time, “I’ve been on this journey, and I’ve been attempting to figure it out. Now I feel like because Ben and I actually have rediscovered one another — and now that we’re married — I actually have something to supply. That is the defining piece of labor that’s going to shut that chapter so I can move on to the following a part of my life.”

Lopez also previously gushed over Affleck’s commitment to the project.

“We collaborate thoroughly together, and no one knows my story greater than he does,” she told Entertainment Tonight in December 2023. “So we were in a position to form of sit down and really dig into it, in a way that I don’t think another author could’ve done with me.”

On the time, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that Lopez “wouldn’t have wished for anybody else” to collaborate along with her on the Prime Video release, adding, “No person knows her higher than Ben.” Lopez felt “grateful” to have Affleck on her team, with the source saying, “He helped her feel protected to share parts of her no one has ever known.”

Us later confirmed in August 2024 that Lopez filed for divorce on the two-year anniversary of her and Affleck’s Georgia wedding ceremony.

The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins airs on NBC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
