Joe Rogan says the UFC is attempting to give you strategies to discourage fighters’ big weight cuts

Joe Rogan revealed that he’s had recent conversations with the UFC’s Hunter Campbell about weight cutting.

While he successfully hit the mark this past weekend, Sean Strickland’s comments about his weight cut led to some concerned reactions during fight week.

This wasn’t the primary time that a highlight has been placed on the method that many fighter’s put their bodies through with a view to compete in a certain weight class.

Probably the most notable example got here in January, when Cameron Smotherman collapsed ahead of UFC 324 immediately after he stepped on the scales.

Rogan has now said that the leading MMA promotion is seeking to take steps to try and forestall the sort of drastic cuts that include serious health concerns for the fighters on their roster.

Joe Rogan has been pitching ways in which he would change the UFC for a while because the promotion’s long-time commentator.

He could have some issues with the present ruleset, but there’s a much greater issue impacting the health of the fighters that he addressed during a recent podcast episode.

When his JRE MMA Show (#174) episode with Terence Crawford got onto the topic of weight cutting, Rogan revealed that the UFC wish to find ways to stop drastic cuts from being so common.

“That’s essentially the most problematic a part of MMA of course,” he said. “I used to be actually just having a conversation with Hunter Campbell [UFC’s chief business officer] about that. They’re trying to plan strategies to discourage these big weight cuts and attempting to work out what to do.”

Anyone who has been listening to Rogan discuss this issue for a while will know that he believes there’s an answer to this problem.

He has long been an advocate of adding more weight classes to MMA with a view to make the load differences between divisions smaller.

“I believe for MMA, they actually need to acknowledge this that one in all the things that’s going to stop weight cuts is give people more weight classes,” Rogan added. “Give people more options. This concept of only having eight champions I believe, in MMA, could be very, very limiting.”

After speaking about several issues with weight classes in MMA, Terence Crawford had a suggestion for Joe Rogan.

He said that the long-time UFC commentator should speak to Dana White about it or petition for it if that doesn’t work.

Rogan’s response made reference to the assorted other ideas that he’s spoken about wanting to implement in the game as to why his opinion tends to fall on deaf ears in the case of making a change.

“No person listens to me, bro,” he said. “They don’t, they don’t take heed to me. They think I’m crazy… Oh, I actually have a bunch of wacky rules that I need to institute so I understand why they don’t wish to take heed to me. I’d throw the entire sport up within the air.”
