Indian spinner par excellence Yuzvendra Chahal reflected on a mess of topics during his panel discussion on the Rising Bharat Summit 2026 on Saturday, including the cricketing ecosystem, winning and losing as a team and being mentally prepared for the eventualities the game offers up.
When asked if the pressure to always keep performing and living as much as the lofty expectations pinned on them, Chahal voiced that, “it’s our job, that’s why we’re skilled crickets.”
“There’s only one thing firmly in your hands, which is your performance. I play a little bit of chess too, and I’ve acquired a little bit of patience from that.”
“And what I’ve learnt from my dad is that, the things that aren’t in your control, don’t take into consideration those things,” he explained.
“While you’re playing cricket, you’ll be able to’t control if it might rain, how the wicket would behave and so forth,” the wily spinner added.
“So it is healthier to deal with the stuff which can be in your control. And I attempt to follow it at all times.”
Chahal also revealed that the character of the game is that it offers up replacements for everybody and that one must be mentally prepared to go trough that phase.
“So once I discuss such stuff, with Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni, cause I consider when I actually have the ball in my hand, I wish to deal with that because I’ve learnt in life that somehow, you shall be replaced eventually.”
“The variety of years be it 5 or 7 years, it’s as much as luck,” the 36 yr old said.
“You’ve to be prepared for that mentally since the game is like that. A brand new player is available in to interchange someone and another person is available in to interchange them. So you only enjoy and deal with life,” he elucidated.
Chahal, who was an element of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad, didn’t get to feature in any game within the tournament despite his quality, but that isn’t something he is concerned about as winning as a team is what maters to the crafty spinner.
“It isn’t a person game, it’s a team game.”
“And when you’re one in all the 15 member squad, it’s a proud moment for me,” he exclaimed.
“Watching the World Cup as a member of the team is healthier than watching it from home,” the spinner said.
“I still have the Indian jersey. And I feel I want to benefit from the moment, and help out my colleagues in whichever way possible, since you win and lose together,” Chahal added.
“So even when I didn’t play a game within the tournament, people still call me a World Champion,” he concluded.
