England batter Will Jacks on Friday (February 27) became only the second cricketer in history to be named the Player of the Match 4 times in a single edition of a men’s T20 World Cup. The all-rounder achieved the feat by scoring a match-winning cameo of 32 not-out after taking two wickets in the primary innings of a Super-Eights clash against Latest Zealand on the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

He equalled the world record held by Australian legend Shane Watson since 2009. Watson was the primary to secure 4 POTM awards in a single edition of the competition and remained unmatched for 17 years.

Jacks won his first POTM of this tournament against Nepal for his 39 not-out in an identical nervy finish, which followed a two-over spell of 1/17 in the primary innings. He then returned 53 not-out and 1/34 with the ball against Italy after which 21 (14) plus 3/22 against Sri Lanka to earn one other two POTMs.

He picked the one against Latest Zealand as his favorite.

“I reckon that is the very best,” he said within the post-match presentation ceremony. “I’m absolutely buzzing with that. To be not out at the top in a decent finish, once I went on the market, it was on a little bit of a knife-edge, and I’m over the moon. It’s nearly keeping it easy. I believe Rehan played an absolute sensible innings. Everyone who got here out on that pitch struggled straightaway, and it took time to get the pace of it, how slow it was. I believe that six he hit second ball off Glenn Phillips sort of upped the ante and just put them on the back foot, after which I used to be capable of play off him there. The sport was sort of laid out for us with how they were going to bowl within the outfield and the conditions. So I just tried to utilise that,” he added.

“Yeah, I feel really confident straight away. I feel calm in the center, which I believe is like one other string to your bow. In the event you’re calming and what you’re attempting to do, then, yeah, that might be more vital than anything. And going into the semi-finals now, I believe myself and the team, we’re moving into the suitable direction. Three wins within the Super 8s against three strong sides. We’re very completely satisfied,” Jacks added.

With the match, Jacks reached a tally of 191 runs and seven wickets within the tournament. Only two players have done higher in each tallies in the identical T20 World Cup: Watson within the aforementioned campaign of 2012 and Sikandar Raza in 2022, where he won three POTMs.
