Bruno Fernandes described Manchester United’s comeback win over Crystal Palace as a ‘big result’ and heaped praise on in-form striker Benjamin Sesko.

Palace were heading in the right direction for a 3rd straight win at Old Trafford when Maxence Lacroix, who scored Palace’s early opener, was sent off for a foul on Matheus Cunha.

Fernandes slotted home the resulting penalty and Sesko continued his good form with United’s winner on the hour mark.

The victory leaves Manchester United third within the Premier League and in fine condition to qualify for next season’s Champions League with ten games remaining.

‘It appears like an enormous result, we were behind and had to indicate some character,’ Fernandes told Sky Sports. ‘We were just a little bit slow with the ball but it surely was three points and that’s the aim.

‘There are a number of games to go still and it will be significant that we don’t feel that we’re within the position that we have to be. We’d like to make as many points as we are able to.’

On Manchester United’s £74m signing Sesko, who has seven goals in his last eight appearances, Fernandes added: ‘He’s a excellent player, we just desired to get his confidence.

‘He’s a child that desires to enhance. He is rarely just pleased with a goal. He could be very aware that he needs to attain week in, week out for this club.

‘Hopefully he could have more goals between now and the top of the season.’

Fernandes was seen talking to former Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson after the sport.

‘I worked with him, I used to be with him when he had the spell at Forest,’ said Fernandes.

‘He even told me at the top that he desired to go to the identical side as he did last week and put it aside. Lucky for me, he went to the opposite side!’

On Lacroix’s controversial red card, Fernandes continued: ‘The referee told me immediately that it was a penalty but he was trying to find out if it was a red card.

‘We all know that when it’s a push or pull and no intention to go for the ball, it’s a red card.’

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, meanwhile, said: ‘It’s decisive if you find yourself 1-0 up after which concede a penalty after which have one player less.

‘The foul was outside the box and the foul ought to be given where it starts, not where it ends. Matheus Cunha was very clever.

‘We tried every part to get the equaliser and we were in good situations 4 or five times. The performances weren’t that bad.

‘We’re not that efficient and that ruthless in attack. The way in which the team is fighting, even here under difficult circumstances, gives me faith until the top of the season.’

Manchester United, who’ve now won seven of Michael Carrick’s eight games in charge, return to motion on Wednesday against Newcastle United.

Crystal Palace, still 14th within the Premier League, ten points above the relegation zone, face a London derby against struggling Tottenham on Thursday.
