Jon Jones calls Lone’er Kavanagh after UFC Mexico City upset
Lone’er Kavanagh’s night went from epic to unbelievable when Jon Jones gave him a call.
Viral footage shows the 26-year-old’s stunned response to Jones showering him with compliments.
“Oh s—! Yes, Jon. Ay, that’s sick! I’m a giant fan,” Kavanagh said when he first saw ‘Bones’ on FaceTime.
“Hey, congratulations. Your Muay Thai is gorgeous,” Jones replied.
Kavanagh scrambled for a response before admitting that he was starstruck by the previous two-weight UFC champion.
“Thanks, sir. I don’t know what to say. I’m starstruck straight away,” the 125lb fighter said.
“Bro, your kicks, they don’t show in any respect. They haven’t any telegraph. It’s so nice,” Jones continued.
“Good job, guys. Congratulations.”
When the decision ended, Kavanagh checked out his team and said with fun, “Ay, Jon Jones likes my kicks.”
Assessing the UFC flyweight picture
Even with a win over Brandon Moreno, Lone’er Kavanagh still has work to do if he wants a title shot.
Flyweight champion Joshua Van will defend his belt against Tatsuro Taira at UFC 327 on April 11.
Alexandre Pantoja is predicted to fight the winner when he returns from the arm injury that brought his run as 125lb champion to an end at UFC 323 in December.
Manel Kape and Kyoji Horiguchi are also chomping on the bit for a shot at flyweight gold.
Kavanagh will most probably should beat one in all them to turn out to be a title contender in 2026.
