Chris Hemsworth Shares The Secret To His Long-Lasting Marriage

Now parents to a few children, the couple relies on candid feedback from one another, whether about work projects or every day life.

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky relocated from Los Angeles to Byron Bay, embracing an energetic, outdoorsy lifestyle while still making time for one another.

For Hemsworth and Pataky, a long-lasting marriage is not built on flattery; it’s built on honesty.

Reflecting on their relationship, the longtime couple shared that unfiltered honesty has been the muse of their bond since they met in 2010 and married later that 12 months in Australia.

Hemsworth and Pataky, who share daughter India Rose and twin sons Sasha and Tristan, say their ability to be truthful with each other has only strengthened over time.

“There’s an honesty, the north star of truth, that you will get with Elsa,” Hemsworth explained to People Magazine. “I can show something to a bunch of other people, they usually may be like, ‘Oh, great work,’ but Elsa will tell me if it sucks.”

Pataky doesn’t disagree. “I’ll tell him, ‘That is actually not funny. It doesn’t work,'” she said.

The “Thor” actor added that their ability to supply a “critical type of assessment” works because his wife “knows who I’m, and we all know what one another can do.”

Hemsworth and Pataky also recently teamed up on screen, appearing in a industrial for Amazon Alexa+ that aired through the Super Bowl.

For Hemsworth, Pataky stays his most trusted critic in terms of his work. He has said her opinion helps him gauge whether a performance or project truly lands.

“Elsa’s honesty is my barometer for whether something works. I take that with the movies I do, the commercials, whatever,” the actor stated. “It’s like everyone else can tell me one thing, but I do know that I’ll get absolutely the truth from her.”

The “Crime 101” actor further noted that sometimes, honesty is “dressed up in gentleness infrequently, in order that it doesn’t shatter my soul, which I appreciate.”

During an appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast, Hemsworth opened up about why he and Pataky selected to depart Los Angeles and return to Australia.

“It was right across the time my boys were born, and we form of were arrange in L.A. and never having fun with it, ?” he explained. “Like, nothing was shooting there. We were filming form of all over the place else. After which … you’d come home and paparazzi and all of the type of trappings of, , living in that space.”

Back home in Australia, Hemsworth says on a regular basis life appears like a vacation. For him, coming back from work doesn’t spark the urge for a vacation; being home already appears like one.

“We’ve got an enormous farm and horses and motorbikes and surf,” he shared. “We lived about 20 minutes from the most important type of suburban areas in Melbourne, up within the hills. And the closest neighbour was a kilometre or two away.”

Lately, the family is predicated in Byron Bay, where they’ve embraced a laid-back, outdoorsy lifestyle. Near the beach, the couple and their three children spend their time browsing, riding horses, and having fun with motocross.

Speaking on the December 15 episode of the “On Purpose” podcast, Hemsworth offered more insight into his home life, revealing what he believes has helped sustain his 15-year marriage to Pataky.

The “Extraction” star said the secret’s surprisingly easy: “Making time for each other,” he said, adding, “Just having time for the 2 of us and making space for one another.”

Hemsworth also noted that continuing to study one another plays a significant role in keeping their relationship strong.

“It lets you forgive one another,” he explained. “It lets you be more compassionate with one another. It lets you have a greater understanding of each your shortcomings. I feel that has kept us in check.”

At Hemsworth’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2024, he gave an emotional speech, sharing his gratitude and appreciation for Pataky.

The Marvel actor acknowledged her unwavering support throughout his profession, noting how she sacrificed her own dreams and aspirations to be by his side.

“It doesn’t wander off on me that she put aside her own dreams as a way to support mine and, again, [I am] endlessly in your debt,” Hemsworth said, per People. “The actual fact [is] that nothing that I do, any of those moments, these special occasions and events, none of it’s special without you by my side. I really like you.”
