Former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid full-back Filipe Luis has been sacked as Flamengo boss, hours after winning a game 8-0.
The 40-year-old was appointed as Flamengo manager in September 2024 and had a wildly successful first 14 months in command of the Brazilian club.
His one full season in charge yielded the Serie A and Copa Libertadores titles, in addition to the Copa do Brasil, Brazilian Super Cup and the Campeonato Carioca.
There was loads of hype across the Flamengo side on the Club World Cup last summer and so they topped their group, beating Chelsea along the way in which.
A 4-2 defeat to Bayern Munich within the round of 16 was no disgrace and Luis was still thoroughly regarded when he signed a contract extension in December.
Nevertheless, things have dramatically soured since then and now the 44-cap Brazil international has been axed just 10 weeks after inking that deal.
Very unusually, his sacking also comes immediately after a rampant 8-0 victory Madureira within the Campeonato Carioca.

A club statement confirmed: ‘Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that, as of this Tuesday (3), Filipe Luís will now not be in command of the skilled team.
‘Ivan Palanco (assistant coach) and Diogo Linhares (physical trainer) are also leaving the club together with him.
‘Flamengo thanks former player and coach Filipe Luís for every little thing that was achieved and shared during this journey. The club wishes him success and the perfect of luck within the continuation of his skilled profession.’

A foul begin to the season has cost Luis, with defeats within the Copa do Brasil, the Recopa Sudamericana and losses to lower-league sides within the Campeonato Carioca.
It’s early within the Serie A campaign, but Flamengo have won just 4 points from their first three games.
Luis leaves the club having taken charge of 101 games, winning 64 of them and being named South American Coach of the Yr for 2025.

The Brazilian had a brief Chelsea profession, only at Stamford Bridge for the 2014-15 season, making 26 appearances and winning each the Premier League and League Cup.
That was in the course of two stints with Atletico Madrid, where he won La Liga, the Europa League twice and the Copa del Rey.
He then returned to Brazil and played for Flamengo from 2019-23, winning the Copa Libertadores twice.
