After suffering a career-altering neck injury that has kept him out of in-ring motion since 2022, Big E officially confirmed last month that he’s retired from skilled wrestling. Despite not being an lively competitor, Big E has continued to be involved on WWE’s programming, having been an analyst on Premium Live Event panels and a brand ambassador, but he has no desire to return to a full-time schedule. Speaking with “The Takedown on SI,” Big E explained that he’s been offered a job to be on WWE’s commentary desk, but has declined because of the corporate’s heavy travel commitments.
“I’ll say I feel the thought of being on the road each week for an prolonged time period is something that I’m not likely open to doing without delay,” he said. “And God bless the quantity of people that’ve come to me and and even tweeted at WWE, ‘Get him on commentary. He deserves to be on commentary.’ Look, I have been approached multiple times by people throughout the company, individuals who’ve gone to bat for me … But when you’re capable of get off that hamster wheel and also you realize that man, I even have my weekends back again or after I first began dating Kristen, my fiancee, I used to be capable of come out for a bit of 10 days for 2 weeks and man, life is nice out here. Life is nice off the grind.”
Big E continued to clarify that WWE play-by-play announcer Michael Cole has been one among his biggest supporters backstage and is thankful for being complimentary towards his work, but still prefers his current role over happening the commentary route.
