West Indies head coach Daren Sammy trolled for his deparate calls to return home
It’s been six days for the reason that West Indies were knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2026 after losing the ultimate Super 8 clash against India. Nevertheless, the players and the coaching staff are yet to fly back to the Caribbean. They remained stranded in Kolkata for the sixth straight day as a result of international airspace restrictions triggered by the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which continued to disrupt travel plans.
Earlier, on Friday, PTI reported that a charter flight had been arranged for the Caribbean side to return home, but the ultimate air traffic approvals are awaited.
Meanwhile, head coach Daren Sammy has been posting on social media, expressing his desperation to return home. “Day 6,” he wrote. Nevertheless, on Saturday, he was trolled by netizens, including some famous cricket fans.
“My heart bleeds. You’ve to remain in your 5 star hotel, eating whatever meals you would like in addition to all of the luxuries…,” wrote Jake Jeakings, a cricket fan from Australia, who has been visiting India to observe the ICC tournaments and the IPL.

The Cricket West Indies had on Thursday confirmed that arrangements were being made for a charter flight to take the team back home after they remained stuck in the town for greater than 4 days as a result of international airspace restrictions within the Gulf region.
“During a high-level call earlier today involving CWI, ICC officials, a representative of team management, and a representative of the players, it was confirmed that a charter flight is currently being arranged for the team’s departure from India, with the expected departure scheduled inside the following 24 hours,” CWI had said in a press release.
“The departure time stays subject to final air traffic approvals. The team stays secure and well as arrangements proceed to be finalized,” the governing body had added.
The CWI said it had been in constant touch with the players, team management and the International Cricket Council while working on travel arrangements.
“While the situation stays complex and fluid as a result of international airspace restrictions arising from security concerns within the Gulf region, CWI assures the general public that each precaution is being taken to make sure the secure return of the team to the Caribbean,” the board had said.
