Ron MacLean: “Okay, what about Austin Matthews, that will have been big. Since you had a funny you say on 32 Thoughts: The podcast, to Kyle. Any person who you say is a source that’s type of ace said San Jose. Matthews.”
Friedman: “Yeah. So, just want to elucidate it. Well the day was really boring yesterday before it really heated up at the tip. Someone just sent that to me, and someone who’s superb, said Matthews to San Jose. I’ve almost got a heart attack, since you don’t do this. And he’s laughing and just kidding.
NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, Recent Jersey Devils, and the San Jose Sharks
But look, I heard you guys in the primary intermission speak about how Matthews looks, and the way much this, how tough that is without delay. And I just think that at the tip of the season. Like, initially, 0.0 he was getting dealt, dealt on the deadline.
But I feel at the tip of the season, they’re going to sit down down and have a conversation with him. And it’d actually not be right at the tip of the 12 months, they could wait like slightly bit to see how every part unfolds and what they determine to do, and where they stand and where every part was going.
But you already know, the one thing that a pair people remind me of this week was, he signed his current extension in August of 2023. Nevertheless it was a 12 months before, two years before he could even hit unprotected free agency. The Maple Leafs went all the way down to meet with him in the summertime. And, just like the one thing that he told them at the moment, so long as it didn’t go off the rails, he was staying.
And the one thing that they feel very comfortable as a company is, is that Matthews won’t like in any way put them in a foul spot. If there’s any reason to think that there’s anything negative happening here when it comes to his future, he’s going to allow them to know.
And but without delay, at this cut-off date, I don’t think there’s, he, I don’t think he’s given them any indication that he’s unhappy or desires to go anywhere.”
NHL Rumors: Jeff Skinner, San Jose Sharks, and the Vancouver Canucks
Ron MacLean: “And also you were spitballing with Matthew Nyes as well. Anything on that?”
Friedman: “No. I’m, not, not that I can tell.”
