England captain Harry Brook stated that crucial fielding lapses, including dropping India opener Sanju Samson’s catch, proved costly as they lost to India within the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final. Speaking in the course of the post-match presentation, Brook added that England misread the conditions early on and didn’t work on their plans effectively in the sector.
“We thought there may need been hold, spin in the primary innings, slid onto the bat nicely, and India batted well. I’ll hold my hands up and admit I made an enormous mistake dropping Samson. We weren’t ok in the sector. We misexecuted, and may’t afford to do this against India,” Brook said.
Team India capitalised on England’s mistakes to post an enormous total, with Sanju Samson leading the best way with a shocking knock. The dropped likelihood proved significant as Samson went on to anchor the innings and helped his side to a formidable rating on Thursday.
Nevertheless, despite the loss, Harry Brook applauded young England batter Jacob Bethell for his fearless approach in the course of the chase, stating his ability to tackle the Indian bowling attack from the very first delivery.
“Bethell was absolutely unbelievable” – Harry Brook
“Bethell was absolutely unbelievable, he’ll earn some serious money. To see him taking it from ball one showed the world what he can do. We had a great tournament; we ought to be extremely happy with how we played. We stuck to it the entire game; unfortunately, we were on the fallacious side,” Brook added.
Put to bat first, a shocking knock from Sanju Samson (89* in 42 balls, with eight fours and 7 sixes) and cameos from Shivam Dube (43 in 25 balls, with a 4 and 4 sixes), Ishan Kishan (39 in 18 balls, with 4 boundaries), Hardik Pandya (27 in 12 balls, with three fours and two sixes) and Tilak Varma (21 in seven balls, with three sixes) took India to an enormous total of 253/7 in 20 overs.
Despite having England restricted to 95/4, India couldn’t dominate them as Jacob Bethell (105 in 48 balls, with eight fours and 7 sixes) and Will Jacks (35 in 20 balls, with 4 boundaries and two sixes) added a 77-run stand for the fifth wicket.
Bethell continued to smash even after Jacks’ dismissal, and a fiery four-ball cameo of 19 from Jofra Archer took England really close, but they finished at 246/7, eventually losing the sport.
