Manjummel Boys Director Chidambaram S Poduval Gets Anticipatory Bail In 2022 S*xual Harassment Case

Malayalam filmmaker Chidambaram S Poduval has been embroiled in controversy following allegations of s*xual harassment against a young woman in 2022. The case was filed with the Kochi police, accusing him of trespassing into the complainant’s apartment and fascinating in inappropriate behaviour.

Based on the most recent update from Live Law, the director has been granted anticipatory bail by the District and Sessions Court in Ernakulam. The court, presided over by District Judge Sri K.K. Balakrishnan, passed the order on Saturday, March 7.

The costs against Chidambaram relate to Sections 74 (ass*ult or criminal force to a girl with intent to outrage her modesty) and 75 (s*xual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case was registered after the complainant’s statement was recorded. Chidambaram has yet to reply publicly to the allegations.

Prior to the news breaking, Chidambaram had made his Instagram account private. Rumours had circulated concerning the Manjummel Boys team planning to make a movie with actor Dileep. In response, he posted on his Instagram stories, urging people to confirm information before spreading rumours and clarifying that he just isn’t a “survival thriller specialist.”

About Chidambaram

Hailing from Payyanur, Chidambaram began his profession within the Malayalam film industry as an assistant director to Jayaraj. He was also an assistant cinematographer to Rajeev Ravi and KU Mohanan, the daddy of actress Malavika Mohanan. He made his directorial debut with the 2021 film Jan.E.Man. Basil Joseph, Lal, Arjun Ashokan, Balu Varghese, and Ganapathi S Poduval were featured within the film.

He gained widespread recognition along with his 2024 film Manjummel Boys, a survival thriller inspired by true events. The film depicts a gaggle of friends facing misfortune during their 2006 vacation on the Guna caves. Nevertheless, it became one in every of the highest-grossing Malayalam movies, earning Rs 241 crore worldwide and over Rs 142 crore net domestically. It stars Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Deepak Parambol, Balu Varghese, amongst others.

His upcoming project is Balan, produced by Venkat K Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn under KVN Productions and Thespian Movies. The film features music by Sushin Shyam, cinematography by Shyju Khalid, and editing by Vivek Harshan.
