India’s 2026 T20 World Cup-winning team captain Suryakumar Yadav met former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni ahead of the beginning of the tournament and received beneficial advice from him before the Men in Blue begin their T20 World Cup title defence in front of home fans on February 7. Surya, who became the third Indian captain after Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to win the T20 World Cup title on March 8 in Ahmedabad, revealed Dhoni’s advice during a recent interaction with reporters upon returning to Mumbai and stated that the legendary wicketkeeper-batter told him how you can approach an ICC event.

“I had met him (MS Dhoni) before the tournament, and he told me how you can approach an ICC tournament. He told me that now we have a great team; we just must be courageous, and we will certainly win. His response after the win was amazing,” Surya said.
