The digital rollout of Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay Thalapathy, has reportedly hit a roadblock because the film continues to face delays in securing its censor certificate. Directed by H. Vinoth, the political motion thriller has been under scrutiny for the past few months attributable to certification-related issues. The film was originally slated for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026, however the plan needed to be pushed after the Central Board of Film Certification didn’t grant clearance in time, leaving each its theatrical and digital release timelines uncertain.

In keeping with reports by Tamil news channel Thanthi TV, the digital streaming rights for the film, which were reportedly valued at around Rs 120 crore, have fallen through as uncertainty across the film’s release continues. The OTT platform that had initially agreed to amass the rights is alleged to have withdrawn from the deal attributable to the prolonged delay and unresolved certification issues.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan has been facing hurdles for several months attributable to complications related to its certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film was originally slated for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival, but did not hit screens after it didn’t receive its censor certificate in time.

Reports suggest that objections raised over certain scenes led to the film being referred to a revising committee, triggering a legal and procedural process that has significantly delayed the project’s release timeline. The prolonged uncertainty has reportedly impacted not only its theatrical plans but in addition its digital distribution prospects.
