The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Mayci Neeley offered her side of the story about Chase McWhorter‘s claim that she sent him “flirty” messages prior to now.
During season 4, which premiered on Thursday, March 12, Mayci and Chase offered different perspectives on a past text exchange. Chase claimed he heard that Mayci was accusing him of sliding into her DMs despite them each being married. He showed snippets of the exchange where Mayci appeared to contact him first.
Mayci, for her part, shared in a confessional that she responded to a photograph that didn’t have Chase in it. From there, Mayci tried to see if Chase desired to be friends together with her husband, Jacob Neeley, and there have been even plans for a gaggle hang until Chase rescinded the offer — and Mayci thought it was because her and Jacob weren’t into swinging.
“So far as the texting goes, I had no idea they were swingers. So I assumed, ‘Oh, that’d be a fun friend for my husband.’ Because we had a double date prior to all of this,” Mayci exclusively told Us Weekly. “But I’ll say where the confusion lied is that my husband thought that he was flirting [via] texting and I used to be like, ‘No!’”
Mayci blamed a miscommunication that led to a “confusing” narrative about flirtatious conversations.
“There’s a scene that was cut where Chase was acting like I used to be hitting him up. So I’m like, ‘To start with, you might be the furthest thing away from my type. It’s not even funny. I wouldn’t even touch you with a 10-foot pole,’” she quipped in regards to the unaired moment. “But in addition, it did bug me slightly bit watching it back.”
She continued: “I don’t know the way persons are gonna take that because I could see people being like, ‘Oh, she was flirting with him.’”
Mayci also recalled reading all of the texts between her and Chase to producers, saying, “But I suppose they only showed slightly little bit of it. It wasn’t flirty in any respect and I don’t think he was being flirty. I believe the undeniable fact that we discovered he’s a swinger later, we were like, ‘Why was he inviting us to a cabin party?’”
Chase, who’s now divorced from Miranda, was previously named as a part of Taylor Frankie Paul‘s soft-swinging scandal. Despite the drama going down nearly five years ago, Mayci was surprised it was brought up again in season 4.
“I did hear things that I won’t even say about this. But Taylor’s ex-husband [Tate Paul] said that Chase was saying [things] about me. But again, we will leave that there and provides me the good thing about the doubt. We’ve moved past this,” she told Us. “This can be freaking 4 years ago. The undeniable fact that it’s resurfacing now, that is anything to make himself relevant.”
Mayci’s costar Mikayla Matthews jumped in to support her friend throughout the joint interview, telling Us, “That’s why I hold grudges. Because I’m very big on the timing and he has proven himself time and time again to be the identical person he was three years ago — leading thus far. I believe it’s convenient timing. I believe there’s an agenda and we like to see a toxic man on the show [so] one other one [added] to the roster.”
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming now on Hulu.
