Suryakumar Yadav led India created history by defeating Latest Zealand by 96 runs in the ultimate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8. Having previously lifted the trophy in 2007 and 2024, India became the primary team to say the title thrice.
The triumph was much more special as no team had earlier managed to win back-to-back T20 World Cups or secure the title on home soil. India delivered a dominant performance in the ultimate, posting an enormous 255/5 after the Kiwis opted to field first.
Sanju Samson starred with a blistering 89 off 46 balls, while Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan added quickfire 52 (21) and 54 (25). Shivam Dube finished strongly with an unbeaten 26 off eight balls. James Neesham took three wickets for Latest Zealand.
Chasing the daunting goal, Latest Zealand were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs due to a superb bowling effort led by Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel. Bumrah starred with 4/15, while Axar picked up three wickets. Tim Seifert scored 52 and Mitchell Santner added 43 for Latest Zealand.

WI vs SL – 36 runs in 2012
West Indies registered the second-biggest victory in a final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup once they defeated Sri Lanka by 36 runs within the 2012 final held in Colombo. Batting first, West Indies posted 137/6 of their 20 overs. Openers Chris Gayle and Johnson Charles were dismissed early for 3 and 0, respectively.
Nevertheless, Marlon Samuels played a match-defining knock, smashing 78 off 56 balls with six sixes and three fours. Dwayne Bravo added a gradual 19 off 19 balls, while captain Darren Sammy provided the late push with an unbeaten 26 from 15 deliveries. For Sri Lanka, Ajantha Mendis was the standout bowler, ending with impressive figures of 4/12.
In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 101 runs. Captain Mahela Jayawardena top-scored with 33 off 36 balls, while Kumar Sangakkara contributed 22 from 26 deliveries. Sunil Narine led the bowling attack for West Indies with three wickets for less than nine runs, while skipper Sammy also chipped in with two wickets.
IND vs SA – 7 runs
India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the ultimate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados. Batting first, India had a shaky start as they lost three wickets for just 34 runs. Virat Kohli led the scoring with an important 76 off 59 balls, hitting two sixes and 6 fours.
Axar Patel and Shivam Dube also made invaluable contributions with knocks of 47 (31) and 27 (16), respectively. While defending the entire, India restricted South Africa to 169/8, with Hardik Pandya picking up three wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with two wickets each.
The Rohit Sharma-led side successfully defended 26 runs in the ultimate 4 overs, despite South Africa having six wickets in hand. For the Proteas, Heinrich Klaasen scored 52 off 27 balls, while Quinton de Kock added 39 from 31 deliveries.
IND vs PAK – 5 runs
MS Dhoni-led India defeated Pakistan in the ultimate of the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 in Johannesburg. Batting first, India posted 157/5 of their 20 overs. Gautam Gambhir played an important knock of 75 from 54 balls, hitting two sixes and eight fours.
Towards the tip, Rohit Sharma provided a late boost with an unbeaten 30 off just 16 deliveries. For Pakistan, Umar Gul was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets. Chasing 158, the Shoaib Malik-led side were bowled out for 152 in 19.3 overs.
Imran Nazir gave Pakistan a fast start with 33 off 14 balls, while Younis Khan added 24 off 24 deliveries in the center order. Misbah-ul-Haq fought hard with a 43 off 38 balls but couldn’t finish the chase, needing 12 runs in the ultimate over bowled by Joginder Sharma. For India, Irfan Pathan and RP Singh picked up three wickets each.
