India men’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed his enthusiasm for cricket’s return to the Olympic Games, as reported in a release. With cricket set to make its Olympic comeback on the LA 2028 Games, Gambhir described participating and representing India as a “huge honour.”
“I’d like to be a part of the Olympics. It’s an enormous honour. Only a few get the honour of representing India on the Olympics,” Gambhir was quoted as saying on the RevSportz Trailblazers 4.0.
Gambhir also discussed the guiding principles behind his leadership and preparation approach. “I used to be very clear from the primary day. The tougher the sport, the more aggressive you’ve got to be. Come the large game, come the crunch game, you’ve got to be more aggressive,” he explained.
Emphasising his support for players during difficult times, Gambhir noted that his belief is predicated on trust fairly than short-term outcomes. “You don’t pick a squad on hope. You choose a squad on trust and faith. You don’t lose trust after just three or 4 matches,” he stated.
Being Human And Making Mistakes
Acknowledging the inevitability of errors in decision-making, Gambhir admitted, “I’m human and I also make mistakes. Fallacious decisions with the precise intent are acceptable. Fallacious decisions with the fallacious intent are never allowed in that dressing room.”
Gambhir highlighted that success is the results of a collective effort and credited the complete team and support staff. “Success is rarely about one person. It belongs to everyone within the dressing room, from the players to the support staff.”
Looking ahead, he acknowledged that India still has work to do within the longer format of the sport. “Transition in red-ball cricket is at all times tougher than white-ball cricket. But when the team keeps working hard in the precise direction, we will probably be high quality,” Gambhir remarked.
Gambhir also expressed gratitude to former BCCI secretary and current ICC chair, Jay Shah, for his confidence in him. He explained the importance of instincts in his decision-making process. “I actually have taken all of the calls on my instincts. My instincts are faster than data, and sometimes data too might be misleading,” he commented.
